TRUE or FALSE?

When we MULTIPLY fractions together, we ONLY multiply the numerators together. Then we simplify the fraction.

FALSE.

When we MULTIPLY fractions together, we multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. Then we simplify the fraction.

How do we convert from an improper fraction to a mixed number?

We see how many times the denominator divides into the numerator. This forms our whole part.

The remainders form the numerator of the fractional part. The denominator of the fractional part stays the same as the improper fraction.

E.g. 17/5 = 3 2/5 (as five goes into 17 3 times, with 2 remaining)

500

How do we create equivalent fractions?

Multiplying or Dividing the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number) by the same whole number to create an equal fraction.

500

If we are adding or subtracting two fractions that have different denominators, what should do we do first?

Make both fractions have the same denominator creating equivalent fractions.

Using KCF,

What is 12/5 divided by 6/7?

(Remember to simplify)

14/5 OR 2 4/5

How do we convert from a mixed fraction to an improper fraction?

Multiply the whole number by the denominator and then add the numerator.

This makes the the improper fraction's numerator.

The denominator stays the same.

E.g. 1 1/2 = 3/2 (As 1 x 2 + 1 = 3)
