The New Testament word used to refer to believers/Christians
Saint
T/F: Choosing to walk by the Spirit is a day-to-day, moment-by-moment decision.
T: Many times during the day we face decisions where we have a choice will I be led by the impulses of the flesh or the Spirit?
Describe the 3 different categories of people that there can be
1) Spiritual person (Physically & spiritually alive, follow promptings of the Holy Spirit)
2) Natural person (Not yet a Christian, Physically alive, but spiritually dead)
3) People of the flesh (Physically & spiritually alive, follow impulses of flesh)
What is one way satan gets a foothold in our lives?
-Pride/rebellion
-Unforgiveness/bitterness
-Acting on our anger
-Other sin
When you forgive, this doesn't mean you_______? List one thing forgiveness is not.
Forgiveness is not:
-Forgetting
-Tolerating sin
-Seeking revenge
This determines how you look at everything in your life. It would be different if you were born in a different time/place.
Worldview
T/F: I am just a sinner saved by grace
F: That's who I WAS. Now, I am a saint (who does still sometimes sin). New creation, changed at the core (2 Cor 5:17)
We have three enemies
The world, the flesh & the devil
What comes before this verse? ____Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
Therefore submit to God.
What changed when we became Christians? List one thing, there are many.
-We have new life “in Christ”, a new heart, a new Spirit within us
-We have a new Master
-Priorities, goals and motives change
-Our relationship with God was restored
A faulty belief that has been reinforced many times over a long period. It prevents us from knowing God and His ways
Stronghold
T/F: When someone goes wrong, it is our job to be their conscience and persuade them of their sin.
F: This is the role of the Holy Spirit, to convict them. When we intervene and point out the sin, they begin to struggle with us instead of Him. If someone in the center is sinning, we should encourage them to bring it to the light, and talk to leaders if they choose not to confess.
Adam & Eve lost these 3 things with the fall, we get them back in Christ
Acceptance, Significance & Security
What is God's life-goal for you?
-To become more and more like Jesus in character.
What is one strategy satan uses to try to distract us from what God wants for us? (there are at least 3)
-Temptation
-Accusation
-Deception
Every attempt to get you to live your life independently of God
Temptation
T/F: When someone becomes a Christian, they should add Christian values and beliefs to their worldview.
T: We need to change out our old beliefs (worldview) and replace it with God's truth. Our "reality" can be distorted if not based soley on God's truth. So instead of adding on Christian beliefs to what we already know, replace your core beliefs with Christian. Ex: something can be overlaid with gold or solid gold.
List three thing that do not change when we become Christians.
-Our bodies
-Our “flesh”
-Sin did not die
-Circumstances
-Our past
How should we respond if someone attacks us?
Learn to be like Jesus: we don't need to defend ourselves anymore. If you're wrong, you don't have a defense. If you're right, you don't need a defense. Christ is our defense. We need to entrust ourselves to God and leave the outcome with Him.
Give one way that negative emotions can help us
-Show us faulty life-goals (ex: anger-blocked life goal, anxiety-uncertain life goal, depression-impossible life goal)
-Show us a problem area (Uncover lies that past experiences have taught us to believe)
______ looks forward to the future. God may do this to us in order to develop our character and so we don't continue to make the same mistakes.
Discipline
T/F: The only thing that matters with Christian faith is that we believe.
F: The critical issue with faith is not just that we believe, but what we believe. Faith needs to be based on the Word of God, not our own experiences or understanding of God. Christian Faith: finding out what is already true (from the Word of God) and making a choice to believe it.
What were the three main points to this course?
1) Know who you are in Jesus (identity)
2) Resolve your personal & spiritual issues (repent & get back on track)
3) Be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Stronghold-busting)
Give one barrier to growth. There are 3.
-Deception (we are deceived by the devil); unbelief
-Unresolved personal and spiritual conflicts (ex: unforgiveness)
-Not assuming responsibility for our lives (God will not do our part for us); laziness
What is one thing that unity bring?
-Changes the spiritual atmosphere
-God gives His blessing & people are saved (Psalm 133)
-More people are saved because of unity
