Offsides occurs when a player crosses the restraining line before a team gains possession of the ball OR when a player crosses the restraining line and their team does not have at least four players behind the line. Meaning their is either 8 players on attack or 8 players on defense. There should only ever be 7 people across the line.

A free position is a free shot or pass given to the offense after a defensive foul occurs in the critical scoring area. The offensive player will line up on a hash mark along the 8 meter, and they are given a free lane to goal to attempt a shot.

A charge is when an offensive player with the ball initiates dangerous or excessive contact with a defender who already has their feet set and has established defensive positioning.

Explain what Hedge-ing is and why it is important.

- Hedge-ing means the two defenders closest to ball should be sagging towards the 8 meter, and taking a step or two toward the ball carrier.

- Hedge-ing is important as it discourages the ball carrier from driving to the goal, and it makes it easier for the defender to slide if the on-ball defender gets beat.

What is the first thing you should look to do when you receive the ball while playing attack? (bonus 100 points if you can explain all the steps of a motion offense)

First thing you should be doing is looking to dodge and attack the goal. AFTER YOU PASS: Cut towards goal to see if you can get open. If the look is not open - CUT AWAY FROM BALL. You want to create space for your teammate to drive, while keeping your defender occupied. If you are off ball. Constantly move, exchange with your teammates, make cuts to goal. Keep your defenders occupied - you are easiest to guard when standing still.
