You are in drop in and notice a child is coughing every couple minutes and has a runny nose. What are the next steps?
This would be an example from the exemption policy.
First step is to connect with the on site lead to let them know your observation.
Next, you or the onsite lead may ask some questions to gain an understanding as to why the child is coughing. “I’m noticing your child has been coughing during the visit today, could you tell me about it a little?”
If it is determined that the cough is due to illness, the family will be asked to end their visit early. “At EarlyON we do ask all participants to stay home until any symptoms have improved for 24 hours” (48 hours for gastrointestinal). "For today, we will ask that your visit end early and we are happy to welcome you back as soon as they feel better."

How many hours of professional learning can be done?
Up to 4 hours per year. The training is offered at no-cost and can be completed during regularly scheduled shifts for full-time staff, or as an additional 4 hours per year for part-time staff.

There is a new family at our centre today and during your conversation with, you learn they are from Colombia and are new to the community. They share with you that they came to EarlyON to meet and connect with others. There happens to be another Colombian family in the drop in that you have a relationship with. What do you do?
Some things to consider.
- Do we know the new family wants to connect with other Colombian families?
- Have we asked the family you already have a relationship if they are okay with being introduced to a new family?
-What message are we sending when we are connecting people based on similar factors (ie. ethnicity, religion, children with similar disabilities)?
