How do we get day and night?

The Earth is spinning on its axis creating day and night.

100

Are constellations moving in the sky?

No, the stars do not move in the sky.

100

When is the shadow the longest?

The shadows are longer when the sun is lower in the sky.

6am and 6pm

100

Do stars move? Do planets move?

No, stars do not move. Planets move around the sun.

100

What is a force?

push or a pull motion

200

Do we get direct sunlight at night?

No the light from the sun reflects off the moon.

200

Can we see every constellation in the sky during one night?

No, because the constellations are not moving and positions in the sky throughout our galaxy. Only certain times of the year can you see the constellations because you are below them.

200

When is the shadow the shortest?

at 12pm. When the sun is right above an object.
200

Is the sun the brightest star in our galaxy?

No there are other stars that are brighter. The sun is the closest, that's why it looks the brightest.

200

What is gravity?

the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass.

300

What season experiences the least amount of sunlight? Why does this happen?

Winter, because the axis is tilted away from the sun. This gives us the least amount of direct sunlight.

300

Why can we not see constellations during the day?

The Sun's light blocks us from being able to see them.

300

The sun rises in the ______ and sets in the _______.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

300

The Sun is _______ to the Earth than other stars and so the Sun appears ______ than any other star in the sky.

closer

bigger and brighter

300

If you drop a book and a pencil at the same time and at the same height, which one will hit the floor first?

They will land on the floor at the same time. Gravity is pulling both objects toward the center of Earth.

400

Why do we only see some constellations and not all the constellations every night?

The Earth is orbiting around the sun. Since the constellations do not move, the Earth only sees the constellations that are right above them at that time of the year.

400

Why do shadow lengths change throughout the day?

The Earth is spinning on its axis to make the sun appear to move throughout the sky. THE SUN DOES NOT ACTUALLY MOVE OVER THE SKY!

400

If there is a star 20 meters away and 40 meters away, which star would look bigger and brighter? Explain how you know.

The star that is 20 meters away will appear bigger and brighter. The closer the star is to Earth it appears bigger and brighter.
