Elder Peter F. Meurs of the Seventy taught the Savior’s healing and redeeming power applies to accidental mistakes, poor decisions, challenges and trials of every kind — as well as sins. Elder Meurs shared a personal story of when he needed the Savior’s healing. What happened?

While driving his family home in Australia, Elder Meurs momentarily fell asleep and caused a head-on car accident. His wife was seriously injured and his infant son was initially unresponsive until receiving a priesthood blessing while the ambulance was en route. With three of his five family members hospitalized, he pleaded with Heavenly Father that his family and those injured in the other vehicle would recover. All were healed over time. But Elder Meurs faced ongoing deep feelings of guilt and remorse, reliving the horrific events. He struggled for years to forgive himself and find peace. Then as a priesthood leader, while assisting others to repent and helping them to feel the compassion, mercy and love of the Savior, he realized that Jesus Christ could heal him.

In speaking of not giving up when we face discouragement or other obstacles, Elder Carl B. Cook of the Presidency of the Seventy shared a story about attending his first stake conference as an area seventy. He was accompanied by President Boyd K. Packer, then Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. What was Elder Cook asked to do that was difficult for him?

During the leadership session, Elder Cook was surprised when, after speaking for 15 minutes, President Packer invited him to speak again. Praying, he was blessed with another thought to share.
