Definition of a resident?
Resident: person who: o is legally entitled to be in Canada o makes a permanent home in Alberta o commits to being physically present in Alberta for at least 183 days in a 12 month period o is deemed a resident by the regulations o does not claim residency or obtain benefits under a claim of residency outside of Alberta, and o is not a tourist, transient or visitor to Alberta
What residency control dates are not assigned a control date?
All residency codes (except code A and N) are assigned a residency control date to enable monitoring of residency status through the file confirmation process
What is the maximum allowable time someone can be away due to business/employment?
48 months/4 years
Until the validation of authorization has been completed, no account information is shared with the client and no updates/changes are to be made. To ensure information is released to authorized persons only, the following verification process must be completed with every client. Verify:
Account Number or Personal Health Number (PHN) o Clients Full Name (First and Last) o Date of birth o Who is currently covered on the account (names of all family members currently active on the account) o Current Address

What code do we assign when we are waiting on documentation to arrive to health? ie: a business contract

Code N represents who?
: indicates a Convention Refugee / Protected Person who has arrived or returned to Alberta to take up permanent residence; does not require a control date
If the client is still hesitant, the following information can be requested in lieu of the address:
name and/or date of birth of dependant(s) o previous mailing address o other system information that can be confirmed such as place of origin if from out of province/country o date of arrival in Alberta/Canada o other provincial health plan number

Canadian passport (expired passport is acceptable)

Social Insurance Numbers (SIN’s) must never be used to validate identity or locate a Personal Health Number (PHN). If client offers their SIN, advise that due to confidentiality concerns and protection of privacy, Alberta Health does not collect SIN’s
