100

The type of reproduction that creates basically a CLONE of an organism.

What is Asexual Reproduction

100

Where do genes come from?

They come from parents.

One parent for asexual reproduction

two parents for sexual reproduction

100

Traits of an organisms are passed from ______________________________________________ to offspring.

Parent

100

___________________________________________________ is when humans choose the traits of an organism.

Artificial Selection:

An example is humans breeding tomato plants that survive in colder temperatures together so that farmers can plant them farther north. (They also use genetic engineering sometimes.)

100

What are the different parts of the cells called? (Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell wall, etc.)

Organelles.

100

In Disney's Peter Pan...what was the name of Wendy's dog?

NANA

Final Jeopardy!!!!!!!

If two parents each have one dominant allele and one recessive allele for curly hair (Cc), what is the probability they will create an offspring with two recessive alleles? Draw a Punnett square to explain your answer.

25%

CC: 25%

Cc: 50%

cc: 25%

200

The type of reproduction where 2 parents are needed to create an offspring that is genetically unique/diverse.

What is Sexual Reproduction.

200

Why do scientists use punnett squares?

They use them so that they can predict what offspring will look like and which genes have the highest probability to be passed on or carried onto the next generation. (because of punnett squares I know that 50% of my future sons will be color blind and 50% of all my future children will have blood type O)

200

Deoxyribo-Nucleic Acid is also referred to as ________________________________.

DNA: these are our genes and where our traits are.

Genes: genetic code in DNA

Traits: What we look like based on our genetic code.

What we look like is from our DNA but we don't necessarily look like every gene we have.

200

How long have humans been changing other species' genes?

Since the beginning of time. Fun fact, Goats were the fist animals humans domesticated so that they could get milk, meat, or other uses from them.

200

DOUBLE JEOPARDY!!!!!!!! (THIS QUESTION IS WORTH 400)

What is some evidence that cells are alive? (How do we know they are alive?)

They reproduce, need energy, they make up all living things and therefore must be alive. There are single (one) celled organisms.

200

What is a female deer called?

DOE

300

DOUBLE JEOPARDY!!!!(THIS QUESTION IS WORTH 600 POINTS)

An insect that helps flowers reproduce sexually.

What is a Bee or Butterfly.

300

Give an Example of a trait

Hair color/texture

Skin color

eye color

the ability to see color

etc.

300

Organisms that are better able to survive are more likely to _____________________ and pass on their traits.

Reproduce

300

Why would humans want to change a species' traits?

So that they can get more out of the species:

Ex:

-Pigs are bred to produce more meat for food.

-cows are bred to produce more milk

-dogs are bred for either a job or companionship.

-Corn was bred to produce more kernels for food.

300

What is force?

A push or a pull. Something that causes a change.

300

How do cats know whether or not they can fit in small spaces?

Whiskers.

400

One of the 3 types of Asexual Reproduction that were discussed in class.

What are Fragmentation, Budding, or Binary Fission.

400

Which gene is the recessive and which is the dominant?

G- green = dominant

g - yellow = Recessive

400

How could an animal’s traits help them survive in nature?

It can create an advantage over others in their species to find food or hide from predators. ETC.

400

What is Artificial Selection?

Humans choosing what organisms can breed so that they change the species to be more useful to them.
400

What are 3 organs we can find in an animal?

Heart, lungs, stomach, brain, bones, skin, etc.

400

What is Flynn Rider's real name in Tangled?

Eugene Fitzherbert

500

2 examples of organisms that produce Asexually.

Bacteria, Spider plants, Starfish, Hydra's, Aloe...ETC.

500

What is the probability of getting a green squash?

50% chance

500

Explain how an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce can affect the entire population. (Think of the bunnies lab or the moths or darwin's finches)

Organism's with adaptations or traits that are better suited for survival will live long enough to pass on their genes. Eventually, this can create a population of with the traits or adaptations of the original organism.

500

Explain how artificial selection could lead to a new plant or animal?

Humans could want a specific trait in an organism so they breed two organisms of the same specie that have the desired trait. Over many generations they will eventually get a new breed. EXAMPLE: Humans wanted a dog that could run really fast to catch rabbits. So, they bred the fastest dog breeds together and over many generations they created the greyhound. They did not make a new species but a new breed.

What direction is the force going when Michael phelps is swimming?
