What are the nitrogen base pairings for RNA?

Adenine-Uracil, Cytosine-Guanine

100

What physical adaptations would a polar bear living in the arctic want to have?

Claws, sharp teeth, layers of fat, thick fur, white fur, etc.

100

In dogs, black hair (B) is dominant over white hair (b). If a dog has white hair, what will its genotype be?

bb

100

What is a chromosome?

A tightly coiled strand of DNA.

200

What does DNA stand for?

Deoxyribonucleic Acid.

200

True or False: An organisms ability to blend into its environment is a behavioral adaptation.

False.

200

Hh is an example of what kind of genotype?

heterozygous

200

What does probability mean when referring to punnett squares?

The percentage that the offspring will have certain genotypes/phenotypes.

300
When DNA replicates, sometimes an error can occur where the incorrect bases pair together, like A pairing with C. What do we call this?

A mutation.

300

True or False: a white moth living during the industrial revolution would have favorable traits that would help it survive and pass on its genetics.

False.

300

hh is an example of what kind of genotype?

homozygous recessive

300

What does a homozygous dominant genotype mean?

The parent has 2 dominant alleles for a specific trait.

400

If one strand of a DNA molecule contains the letters ATTCG, what would be the letters in the complementary strand?

TAAGC

400

What is a behavioral adaptation and give a specific example?

An animal's behavior that helps it to survive in the environment such as hunting for food, hibernating, etc.

400

In humans, brown hair (B) is a dominant trait over blonde hair (b). If a heterozygous mom and homozygous recessive dad had offspring, what is the probability that their offspring would have a homozygous dominant genotype?

0%

400

What is the difference between an inherited trait and an acquired trait?

An inherited trait is coded in the DNA and inherited from the parents. An acquired trait is something learned from the environment.

500

Compare and contrast DNA and RNA. *You must be specific!

DNA is double stranded. The sugar used in the nucleotide is deoxyribose. It is found in the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. It stores our genetic information. It's 4 nitrogen bases are A-T, C-G.

RNA is single stranded. The sugar used in its nucleotides are ribose sugars. It is found in the nucleus and cytoplasm of prokaryotic cells. It makes proteins for DNA. Its 4 nitrogen bases are A-U, C-G.

Both DNA and RNA are composed of nucleotides and have 4 nitrogenous bases. They can both be found in the nucleus.

500
What is natural selection?

Also referred to as "survival of the fittest." Meaning that organisms with traits that are best adapted to a specific environment will thrive, reproduce, and pass on those favorable traits to the next generation. Organisms with unfavorable traits will not survive.

500

In humans, brown hair (B) is a dominant trait over blonde hair (b). If a heterozygous mom and homozygous recessive dad had offspring, what is the probability that their offspring would have blonde hair?

50%

500

What is an allele?

A variation of a gene.
