Horror
Fiction dealing with the solution of a crime or the unraveling of secrets.
Mystery
Humorous story with blatant exaggerations, swaggering heroes who do the impossible with nonchalance.
Tall tale
Full length and includes major and minor characters, more than one plot, and themes the author wants the reader to learn
Novel
Writing that tells true information about self
Autobiography
Usually in the form of a play where emotions and conflicts are revealed through action and dialogue
Drama
Legend or traditional narrative, often based in part on historical events, that reveals human behavior and natural phenomena by its symbolism; often pertaining to the actions of the gods.
Mythology
Fiction of such brevity (short length) that it supports no subplots (only has one plot).
Short story
Narrative literary works whose content is produced by the imagination and is not necessarily based on fact.

Fairy tale
Tells a story but uses factual information to do so
Narrative non-fiction
Includes strange characters or places from other worlds, so reality usually isn't part of it
Fantasy
Story with fictional characters and events in a historical setting.
Historical fiction
The songs, stories, myths, and proverbs of a people handed down by word of mouth.
Folklore
The category of a piece of writing because it has certain characteristics
Genre
Contains multiple paragraphs that explain the writer's thoughts about a topic, which gets presented in a thesis statement
