To encourage the South to purchase from the North, President Jackson & Congress implemented a tariff. Southerners were angry about this. Many states wanted to nullify. Only South Carolina passed an Ordinance of Nullification. Congress eventually lowered the tariff.

Miners were digging and discovered gold, pressuring the Cherokee to move off their land.
