Why do students usually ask to see their counselor?
They have a problem or conflict or just need someone to really listen to them.
Is Mrs. Knights the only person you can go to for help?
No way! Mrs. Duplessis and Mrs. Harris also support students every day!
Why do counselors teach students about healthy friendships and conflict resolution?
School is practice and preparation for adulthood. We all need to practice being kind humans on a daily basis.
What is confidentiality?
Keeping conversations between people private. Not telling others what was said unless absolutely necessary.
What instrument did I play when I was in middle school?
Are you ever in trouble when you go to see your school counselor?
No. I don't give out any consequences! Sometimes I have to have difficult conversations, and we may need to work through challenging problems, but I will never assign consequences.
Why do counselors teach about coping skills?
We all have big emotions & hard situations that we will need to use our coping skills to help get through

Talk with students individually, classroom guidance lessons, small groups, talk with teachers, talk with parents
Where is the Guidance Suite?
In the back hallway behind the office! It's easiest to go to the office window and they will walk you back to our offices!
What is one sport that I played in middle school?
Soccer, Basketball & Softball

Feelings, family, classes, friends, teachers, grades.. just to name a few!
What is "venting"?
A way to cope with stress/negative emotions by telling someone about what happened or is happening.
How can your counselor help you throughout middle school?
Middle School is so hard! You are changing every day. Your body, friendships, likes and dislikes, and preferences - ALL CHANGING! Your counselors are here to help you navigate up the challenging mountain of Middle School!
How do I report something without other students knowing about it?
Write a note to your teacher. Send me an email. Submit the Counselor Request Form
How many years total have I been a counselor?
Can you come to your counselor if your family has needs for food or other resources?
Yes! Absolutely. I also have clothes, hygiene items, and can get food for anyone who needs it.

Will my counselor tell my teacher if I have any complaints about a class or conflict with a teacher?
Your counselor will not tell your teacher without your permission. Your counselor can work with you to help deal with the conflict or challenging class when you are ready!

Do you have to be going through a major crisis to see your counselor?
No! Counselors support ALL students whether they need a lot or a little help. No problem is too big or too small!
What are some ways your counselor can help you when you're feeling anxious?
Talking it through, breathing exercises, fidgets, and practicing coping skills.
How does your counselor advocate for you?
Standing up for students; being the "voice" for students in meetings; being a go-between for students and teachers.
What are the four exceptions to confidentiality?

*You want to hurt yourself.
*You give me permission to tell.
