What causes global warming?

As human activity takes place, carbon-dioxide increases.

100
Name one common greenhouse gas
Carbon Dioxide
100

Scientists believe that artic ice is melting at the rate of ________% every ten years!

100
What are two common ways of transportation that does not add to global warming?
Walking and Biking
100

What is good about the greenhouse effect?

Without the greenhouse effect, Earth would be much too cold for life.

200

How do people cause climate change?

Human activities - must be specific of a human action

200
What are greenhouse gases?
Gases trapped in the atmosphere
200

How do volcanoes contribute to global warming?

When they erupt, they release large amounts of Co2

200

What is carbon footprint?

Carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated by our actions.

200

Where in our environment specifically, are we seeing the effects of climate change?

Coral reefs, artic regions, oceans, etc.

300

What is the evidence that global warming may be happening?

Temperature changes in ocean, melting ice caps, arctic animals are dying, changes in weather patterns

300
How are animals affected by greenhouse gases?
Some animals can only live in cold temperatures and if temperature rises, they can become extinct
300

This is an atmospheric heating phenomenon in which the Earth experiences rise in temperature because certain gases

What is coral bleaching?

Coral bleaching happens when corals lose their vibrant colors and turn white. When water is too warm, corals will expel the algae (zooxanthellae) living in their tissues causing the coral to turn completely white.

400
Name 3 Greenhouse gases
CO2, methane, water vapor, and nitrous oxide
400
How are green houses gases linked to global warming?
The green house gases get traped in the atmosphere therefore making the temperatures rise
400

How do forests help remove greenhouse gases?

They exchange Co2 for oxygen

400

These are resources which can be used repeatedly and replaced naturally and almost never run out. Solar energy is an example.

Renewable resources

400

Give an example how global warming is affecting polar regions

answers will vary

500
How will climate change affect the ocean?
Polar Ice caps may melt therefore increasing ocean levels.
500

If we continued to damage the Earth, how would that affect life?

The atmoshere would overheat and therefore lifeforms would not have enough time to adapt.

500

What are 2 alternatives for making electricty that do not contribute to global warming?

Wind, Hydropower, or solar

500

Climate change and global warming are used interchangeably, however, they are different. How so?

Climate change broadly refers changes in average weather (temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, severe weather, etc.)

Global warming refers to a rise in the Earth’s average global temperature.

500

Why are temperatures in the Arctic are rising 2 to 3 times faster than temperatures farther south?

Sea ice reflects more sunlight than does the darker ocean. As the sea ice melts, there's less "white" to reflect the sunlight and more "dark" to absorb it. So the ocean gets a little warmer. And more sea ice melts, and the darker water absorbs even more sunlight and heat.
