The expression SUBJECT + BE GOING TO + VERB is used to talk about intentions or plans that are NOT 100% sure.

Do not confuse TO GO to a place § TO BE GOING TO GO to a place:

You can use BE GOING TO + VERB when you want to talk about a prediction that is obvious (=evident), for example the weather: Look at the clouds, it's going to rain this afternoon!
