Explain the difference between the establishment and free exercise clauses

The First Amendment's free-exercise clause gives the government the right to encourage specific religions. It also gives people the right to set up religious presentations on public property.
The Establishment Clause, however, is a restriction put on the Congress that prevents it from passing legislation regarding an establishment of religion.
