What causes day & night?
The rotation of the Earth
100
What are celestial bodies made of ice and dust?
COMETS
100
What is the formula for density?
density = mass/volume
200
What is a factor that can change during an experiment?
VARIABLE

Which planet is the closest to the sun?
MERCURY
200
What causes seasons?
The tilt of the Earth
200
What in our solar system is made of rock or iron?
An asteroid
200
What does the density of an object have to be to float in water?
Less than 1g/ml
300
What part of the scientific method is it when you state whether your hypothesis is correct or not?
CONCLUSION
300
Which planet is farthest away from the sun?
NEPTUNE
300
Why are there phases to the moon?
The moon rotates around the Earth. Half of the moon is always lit by the light of the sun. To humans looking from Earth, the moon appears take different forms.
300
Where are asteroids located in our solar system?
Between Mars and Jupiter

A block has a mass of 10g and a volume of 2ml. Will it float or sink in water? Why?
Sink. It has a density of 5g/ml which is more than 1g/ml
400
What do you use to organize your data?
A data table
400
Which planets is most like the Earth in shape and size?
VENUS
400
What phase of the moon is seen as left side light and right side dark? Where is the moon located in relation to the Earth?
First quarter. The moon is above the Earth.
400
Why do comets have tails?
Comets are made of ice and as the comet approaches the sun, the ice is heated and creates a gas tail.
400
Mercury has a density of 13.5g/ml. A rock has a mass 80g with a volume of 4ml. Will it float or sink in the mercury?
It will sink. It has a density of 20g/ml.

Mary has two different balls with her. She wants to know which one will fall to the ground first. List the materials and a procedure.
Answer can vary.

Name five differences between the terrestrial planets and the gas giants.
1. Terrestrial planets are small. Gas Giants are bigger. 2. Terrestrial planets are closer to the sun. Gas giants are farther away from the sun. 3. Terrestrial planets have few moons. Gas Giants have many moons. 4. Terrestrial planets are warm. Gas Giants are cold. 5. Terrestrial planets orbit the sun fast. Gas Giants orbit the sun slower. 6. Terrestrial planets are made of rocky surfaces. Gas giants are made of gas.

What are two differences between a solar and a lunar eclipse?
1. During a solar eclipse, the moon is between the sun and the earth blocking the light. During a lunar eclipse, the moon is behind the Earth in the shadow of the sun. 2. Solar eclipse happen during new moon phase. Lunar Eclipses happen during full moon phase.

How is an asteroid a harm to humans?
Asteroids are celestial bodies made of rock or iron that are at least a few hundred kilometers wide. If one does hit the Earth, it will create a huge dent and everyone will die.

A student in the lab needs to find the density of a rock. List the materials she can use and a procedure.
Materials: Graduated cylinder, balance (or scale), water, calculator Procedure: 1. Find the mass using a balance. Write it down. 2. Fill graduated cylinder to 50ml. 3. Drop in rock. 4. Write down the water level. Do the final volume minus 50ml. This is the volume of the rock. 4. Use the formula density=mass/volume to calculate density.
