What is the formula for pressure?

Pressure = Force / Area OR

Pressure = Density x Gravity constant x Depth

100

A + B --> AB is what type of reaction?

Synthesis

100

In which state of matter do the particles move the fastest?

Gas

100

What happens when you put a balloon in liquid nitrogen?

The balloon gets smaller. It's volume decreases.

Who was the famous scientist that was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize?

Marie Curie

200

What is the pressure if 12N acts over 3cm2?

4 N/cm2

200

AB --> A + B is what type of reaction?

Decomposition

200

Gases have a (definite/indefinite) shape and a (definite/indefinite) volume.

Gases have an indefinite shape and an indefinite volume.

200

Describe the relationship between Volume and Temperature of a gas at a fixed pressure. Draw a graph on the board.

Volume increases with temperature.

200

What famous Scientist came up with the theory of special relativity?

Albert Einstein

300

If a pressure of 24 N/m2 is acting over 4 m2 what is the force in N?

P=F/A so P*A=F so 24*4=96N

300

AB + C --> AC + B is what type of reaction?

A single replacement

300

Liquids have a (definite/indefinite) shape and a (definite/indefinite) volume.

Liquids have an indefinite shape and a definite volume.

300

Describe the relationship between Temperature and Pressure of a gas at a fixed volume. Draw a graph on the board.

Pressure increases with an increasing temperature.

300

What is the capital city of Angola?

Luanda

400

What is the pressure of water at a depth of 5 meters? Assume density of water is 1000kg/m3 and gravity is 10 N/Kg. (Don't add atmospheric pressure).

50,000 N/m2

400

What is the difference between physical and chemical change?

A physical change in a substance doesn't change what the substance is. In a chemical change where there is a chemical reaction, a new substance is formed and energy is either given off or absorbed

400

What is it called when a solid turns into a gas?

Sublimation

400

Describe the relationship between Volume and Pressure of a gas at a fixed temperature. Draw a graph on the board.

When the pressure increases the volume decreases.

When the pressure decreases the volume increases.

400

What is the 3rd highest mountain by altitude in the world?

Kangchenjunga

500

What is the highest instantaneous pressures we can obtain here on Earth?

Fusion reactor at the National Ignition Facility and in Thermonuclear weapon detonations. These achieve pressures of 5 x 10^12 and 6.5 x 10^15 Pascal respectively. For comparison, the pressure inside our Sun’s core is 2.5 x 10^16 Pascal.

500

Name the famous chemical reaction plants use to convert H2O + CO2 to glucose and O2

Photosynthesis

500

What is it called when a gas turns into a solid?

Solidification or reverse sublimation

500

Why does the volume of the of a balloon increase when you blow into it? The temperature is the same and the pressure in the room is the same. The pressure in the balloon increases. That goes against the relationship where volume decreased as pressure increases????

Because we added more particles to the balloon. Those relationship are only valid when the number of particles stays the same.
