A word that joins the predicate to the subject (for example: is, were, was)
What does the predicate of the sentence tell you?
The action/what is happening in the sentence
What is a concluding (or conclusion) sentence?
Always the last sentence of the paragraph, it wraps up the paragraph and does not include new information
What is a concrete noun?
A name of a person, place, or thing that can be detected using a person's five senses
What are the three articles?
a, an, the
What is a fragment?
A group of words that isn't a complete thought and doesn't have either a subject or a predicate
What is an irrelevant sentence?
A sentence that does not relate to the topic sentence and should not be included in the paragraph
What is an abstract noun?
Emotions/feelings/states/attributes/ideas/concepts that cannot be detected using a person's five senses
What are the two types of verbs?
Action and linking
What is a run-on sentence?
Two or more simple sentences that run together because they are capitalized or punctuated incorrectly
What should every paragraph have?
A topic sentence, at least 3 detail sentences, and a concluding sentence
