Metacommentary/analysis is a way of commenting on your claims and telling your audience why it's relevant to your argument. In other words, it is an explanation that connects the dots between the writer’s claims and evidence.

This DOES require a citation as this is is not common knowledge. Just because someone happens to recall a specific piece of information does not mean that the information is generally understood and accepted. To resolve this situation, the student will need to locate a source that makes this argument, and cite that author.
