These marks are used by the printer to trim the paper so that the final product has artwork that flows to the edge of the paper.
What are crop marks.
These file types are constructed by a series of pixels, or individual blocks, to form an image. (JPG, PNG, GIF)
What are raster images?
This color mode is used for printing. The more color added in this mode, the darker the result.
What is CMYK? (cyan, magenta, yellow, black)
This style of of type should NEVER be used in all caps.
What is script?
This is the term used to refer to the size a printed piece will be AFTER it is folded.
What is finish size?
These images are constructed using proportional formulas rather than pixels. (EPS, AI and PDF) These are used to create graphics that require frequent resizing.
What are vector images?
This color mode is intended for screen displays.
The more color added in this mode, the lighter the result.
What is RGB?
These are ways to make text stand out and catch the reader's eye.
What are bold, size, color and font?
An image that is being printed should have this resolution (dpi).
What is 300 dpi? (Dots per inch)
This is the most common file type used for the web. They are known for their "lossy" compression, meaning that the quality of the image decreases as the file size decreases.
What is a jpg?
This color system allows designers to color match specific colors when a design enters production stage, regardless of the equipment used to produce the color.
What is Pantone, or PMS?
This helps us in creating visual interest and in guiding the viewer’s eyes across the page.
What is Hierarchy?
Dimensions for a printed piece should be put in this order.
What is width first, height second? 24" Wide X 36" Tall
This is a file in vector format that has been designed to produce high-resolution graphics for print. If opened in a design program, the size can be increased without losing quality.
What is an .eps file?
The maximum number of colors that should be used in a design.
What is 3. (Not including tints and shades)
The maximum number of typefaces that should be used in a design.
What is 2?
