Read the following paragraph and revise for run-ons using a red or green pen. You may also make notes in the margins. For each sentence, identify above or in the margins if it is simple, compound, or complex.

Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a whimsical comedy that explores themes of love confusion and transformation it takes place in ancient Athens and a mystical forest filled with fairies and magical creatures. The play begins with a love triangle where Hermia is in love with Lysander but her father wants her to marry Demetrius who is also loved by Helena and the young lovers flee into the woods to escape their problems. Meanwhile a group of amateur actors are preparing a play for the Duke’s wedding and they also venture into the forest where they unknowingly become involved in the magical chaos. The fairy king Oberon and the mischievous Puck use a magical flower to manipulate the humans’ emotions but their plan goes awry causing people to fall in love with the wrong partners. Oberon seeks to punish his queen Titania so he casts a spell that makes her fall in love with a man who has been transformed to have a donkey’s head and this man is one of the actors named Bottom. The tangled web of love and mistaken identities creates a series of humorous misunderstandings and emotional outbursts that are only resolved when the magic is reversed and order is restored. Eventually all the lovers are paired correctly and the Duke’s wedding proceeds with joy and celebration. The actors perform their play which is ridiculous and entertaining and the entire story ends with a sense of harmony and peace. The fairies bless the marriages and Puck ends the play by asking the audience to forgive the strange tale if they were offended and to think of it as a dream. The play blends fantasy and reality in a way that shows how irrational and powerful love can be even when it leads to confusion and chaos.
