This is a type of citrus fruit. It grows best in the warm weather (especially in sunny Florida!). You can squeeze it to make juice, but it has more nutrients when you eat it whole. It is the same color as my name.
What is an orange?
It grows underneath the ground. It can be eaten raw or cooked. It helps keep eyes healthy. It is the color orange.
What is a carrot?
It packs extra fiber when it is made from whole wheat flour. Some people like it “al dente”, but other people cook it longer. It comes in many different shapes like bowties. Most people eat it with sauce on top.
What is pasta?
It helps build strong bones and teeth. Try the low-fat or nonfat varieties as a healthy substitute for sour cream. It is delicious served with fruit. Add granola and serve it as a parfait.
What is yogurt?
It comes from a farm animal. Open it up and you’ll see two parts. It is popular in many breakfast recipes. It can be served in many ways, like scrambled, poached, or boiled.
What is an egg?
It is in season most of the year. It is round and plump with tiny seeds inside. You may have heard “one of these a day keeps the doctor away.”
What is an apple?
It is green. It tastes good raw, steamed, sauteed, or roasted. Its closest vegetable cousin is cauliflower. It looks like a miniature tree.
What is a broccoli?
It has lots of fiber. “Multi-grain”, or “Seven grain” on the package doesn’t mean it is this. Check the first ingredients list to be sure you’ve got the real thing. Don’t be fooled…not everyone can be this just because it is brown!
What is whole-wheat bread?
It is somewhere between the size of a golf ball and the size of a tennis ball. The skin is brown and fuzzy. Once you peel it, it is bright green and juicy on the inside!
What is a kiwi?
