Henry Grady chose Booker T Washington to speak because of the fact that Washington was a black man who was born into slavery and was just glad to be free instead of chasing political power. Tom Watson wanted Booker t Washington to deliver the messages that blacks should focus on industry and the economy, and be glad they were free instead of chasing civil rights.
