Jacob Sheep got their name because...
In the Bible they were bred by the patriarch Jacob in the Book of Genesis. Jacob made an agreement with his father-in-law, Laban, that Jacob would keep all the spotted and speckled sheep in the flock. Laban and his sons hid all the spotted and speckled sheep so all that was left of the herd were solid colored sheep. Jacob selectively bred these animals, by putting stripped branches in the sheep's water and in the area where they commonly would mate and the story says that over time his share of the flock grew.
