Sick child procedure

  1. The child should be taken to the office to be isolated from the other children and made as comfortable. 

  2. The child’s parent or guardian should be called. If they cannot be reached the names on their emergency contact form should be called in the order chosen by the family.

  3. Any personal items the child came in contact with should be sent home to be washed. Any program items such as cots or stuffed animals should be disinfected by center staff or washed.

Play tables should be cleaned first with soap and water then sprayed with bleach solution and allowed to air dry. A clean paper towel should be used for each table and disposed after use. This should be done before/after eating and for cooking activities.

4 procedures/precautions that should be taken if children in your classroom have allergies

  • All children should wash their face and hands after snacks and lunch

  • Tables should be washed well after meals including the sides of the table and anywhere else children may have touched.

  • A dedicated “No Peanut” table is clearly marked in each classroom that has a child with a peanut/tree nut allergy.

  • Children with food allergies should only eat the food which is provided for them by their family. Ingredients on any additional food should be checked and if there's any question about the safety of the food, the family should be called.
