What is a heat source?
What are the three ways of producing heat?
Heat is produced through friction, electricity and burning.
How does heat move?
Heat moves from warm objects to cold objects.
What is a conductor?
A material that allows heat to pass through easily.
What are 4 ways we can keep warm?
1. Eating something warm
2. Going somewhere warm
3. Moving my body
4. Wear warm clothing
Name 3 heat sources in the classroom.
Name 2 examples of frictional heat.
Teacher to judge answers.
If I place a metal spoon on top of a hot water bottle. What do you think happens? Why is that so?
Name 3 examples of a conductor.

Name 5 heat sources in your home.
teacher to judge answers.
What is electrical heat? Provide 3 examples.
Electrical heat involves converting electricity to heat energy.
Draw a diagram of a lizard on a warm rock. Show the movement of heat.
Drawing must include:
1. A lizard
2. A rock
3 Arrows pointing from the rock to the lizard
Can fabric be a conductor? Why or why not?
Fabric are insulators, which means they are known to trap heat. This means they will not allow heat to pass through easily.
How do penguins keep warm? Explain your answer.
They huddle in a large colony. They do this by standing close to each other to share body heat.
A heat producer is an object that can heat itself up. Examples - teacher to judge answers.
Is a gas stove frictional, burning or electrical heat source? Explain your answer.
A gas stove uses burning heat as it creates fire on the stove tops to heat up our food.
Draw a diagram of teaspoon in a hot cup of tea. Show the movement of heat.
Diagram must include:
1. A tea spoon
2. A teacup
3. Arrows showing heat travelling from the tea to the spoon
Why are pots and pans made of metal?
In what everyday activities do we use heat? Provide 3 examples
1. cooking
2. warming up the house with a heater
3. drying our clothes
4. heating up water in the shower
Is a heat pack a heat producer? Why or why not? Explain your answer.
A heat pack is not a heat producer because it relies on your body heat to warm it up. The heat pack is placed in your pocket.

Why did the iceblock melt in your hand? Explain your answer. Draw a diagram of the iceblock in your hand.
1. The iceblock melted in my hand because the heat from my hand travelled to the cold iceblock.
Diagram must include:
1. A palm
2. An iceblock
3. Arrows showing heat travelling from the palm to the iceblock
If I was to stir my pot of soup with a spoon. What material do you think I could use? Metal, rubber, plastic or wooden? Explain your answer.
I would use a wooden spoon or a rubber spoon to stir my soup. If I use a metal spoon, the heat from the soup will travel up to the handle and bun my hand.
