Hiro
This step includes the hero not wanting to go on their journey, potentially because they fear the unknown or are insecure.
Refusal of the Call
This step takes place after the hero has achieved their goal in the unknown world. They do not want to go back to their known world perhaps because they see this unknown world as better
Refusal of the Return
Johnny helps Ponyboy personally grow throughout the novel. He helps Ponyboy get through the unknown world and through trials he must face. Johnny is THIS to Ponyboy.
Mentor
When Hiro goes to the university and meets the fellow nerds, he starts his journey and is in this step.
The Beginning of the Adventure
This step includes the hero sharing their wisdom learned throughout their adventure with their known world. This is typically at the very end of their adventure.
The Crossing or Return Threshold
This step is when the hero goes from the known world to the unknown world.
Beginning of the Adventure or Initial Crossing the Threshold
Johnny and Ponyboy must stay in the church after Johnny kills the Soc. The church represents this place or "kind of world" in the hero's journey.
Unknown World
Baymax acts as this supportive kind of person to Hiro throughout his journey.
Mentor
This step includes tests that the hero must experience and get through. These tests can be obstacles or challenges the hero must overcome in order to get to the final challenge.
The Road of Trials
This step is when the hero perhaps experiences danger and adventure as they finally return to their known world and life before their journey.
The Magic Flight
During the Pony's "Rescue from Without" in his hero's journey, he has this powerful guide mentally bring him back to everyday life. This guide alters Pony's mindset about his relationship with his older brother, Darry.
Soda
Hiro receives support from his friends and his brother (through Baymax) even after he did something wrong. This support takes place during this step of the hero's journey.
Experience with Unconditional Love
This step is where the story reaches a climax and the hero achieves the goal of their quest or journey.
The Ultimate Boon
This step includes others assisting the hero in the return to their known world. These assistants may be rescuers that save the hero and provide extra support.
Rescue from Without
When Pony doesn't want Johnny to leave the church and confess, he is going through this step of the hero's journey.
Refusal of the Return
Hiro shares what he's learned throughout his journey and integrates it into his known world. This sharing takes place in this stage of the hero's journey.
