Besides reading the Word of God and prayer, what are other ways God speaks today? The book brought them. Explain each one.

1. Prophecy - A message from the Lord however while sharing the WOG one should make sure it is tested by scripture.
2. Promptings - at times we may be led to pray for a specific person, meet the needs of another. Or we may be reminded of a specific passage. 
3. People - God often desires to speak to you through someone else. It may come in the form of encouragement or comfort when gathering for corporate worship.

Why is praying “you kingdom come” (Matt 6:10) a part of the prayer model? What points/examples were brought?

Luke 11:1-2 (ESV) 1 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.

* The disciples were the ones who asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. This was the way that Jesus taught His disciples to pray.

* We explained that it wasn’t something only of the New Testament to have disciples. Disciples were trained up, they followed their leader.

Other eg. Samuel had disciples.

1 Samuel 19:19-21 (ESV) 19 And it was told Saul, “Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.” 20 Then Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.

Eg.2. Elijah

1 Kings 19:21 (ESV) And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.

Eg. In the NT: John

Luke 5:33 (ESV) And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink.”

What questions does the book bring to ask yourself to better discern God’s Voice. Explain each question.

1. Does it align with scripture? - are you immersing yourself in the word of God?
2. Does this align with what I know about God - Does this contradict His word of character?
3. Does this seem wise? - is it wise?
4. Does this serve or make much of me? - checking the motivations or desires that lie in the heart
5. Do wise people in my life affirm what I’m hearing? - are their people in your life who walk with God and know His voice?

What does it mean for one to commit their plans to the Lord?

Psalm 37:5 - “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”

• To commit your plans  = to commit your way to the Lord
  • Meaning for one to walk in righteousness, doing good, obeying the Word of God

When did God’s kingdom come, and what did His kingdom bring?

Part A - When 

• From the days of John the Baptist

Matthew 11:12 (ESV) From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.

Part B -  What 

Matthew 10:7-8 (ESV) 7 And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.

• To heal them (Israel) of their diseases that came as a result of disobedience to the law

Hebrews 4:16 - “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

• To bring grace and mercy through Christ

Explain why John the Baptist came preaching repentance? Bring scripture.

Zephaniah 2:3 - “ Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility, perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the Lord.” 

• Why…. because the Day of the Lord is either a day of salvation (for the righteous) or a day of judgment (for the wicked) 
  • Repentance -  to seek humility and bear good fruits of righteousness
    • Matthew 3:10 - “ Even now the axe is laid to the root of the tree. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”
• Isaiah 40:1-5 & Isaiah 55:7 - John crying out because it was a time of salvation, a time of mercy, a time of God drawing near
  • Those who don’t turn away won't receive mercy
• Ex: The Pharisees - did not turn, get baptized, and rejected the purpose of God

Conclusion: John the Baptist came preaching repentance that those who repented by turning away from evil and bearing good fruits of righteousness would find mercy at the coming of the Lord.

• God is speaking through the mouth of the king (Proverbs 16:10 - The oracle of the Lord is on the mouth of the king)

• The King speaks towards: judgment for the sake of bringing justice (Proverbs 16:33 - Lot cast by the king because he has to make the judgment)
  • Ex: Solomon (1 Kings 3:28)
    • The wisdom of God came to Solomon that the justice of the Lord may be administered
• The Lord is the one who works everything!

How does solitude differ from personal Bible study? What is a benefit of practicing solitude? 

Solitude is a time of contemplating. Seeing what needs to cut out, what needs to be minimized in one’s life. Assessing one’s ways in the presence of God. 

• It is a time of structuring your life as one who will give an account to the Lord.

Psalm 119:59 (ESV) When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies;

Helps you to structure your life to be a true worshipper of God.

How is Me’adi a discipline? Bring examples in your explanation.

• There is constant training here. 
• There is structure in Me’adi in all we do and we give ourselves to it if we are to follow. 
• Eg. Evangelism on specific days at specific times, weekly Bible study, etc.

How should one wait on the Lord in prayer? Bring a practical example.

PART A 

Psalm 37:34 - “ Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.”

• Waiting on the Lord = requires one to keep God’s ways
  • As we wait, we cannot walk however we choose, but must walk in His ways until He answers 
  • Waiting is not just a heart posture but a walking
• Psalm 119:166 - there is hope for the one who does His commandments
  • When one does, they are putting their hope in the Lord that He can answer prayers 
• Psalm 119:165 - peace belongs to those who meditate and do his commandments 
• Isaiah 58 - One is heard by the Lord by walking in obedience.

PART B 

Ex: One ask the Lord for greater understanding of His Word and for it to be revealed to them. As they wait for Him to grant that understanding, they faithfully walk in the word of God they've received allowing with pursuing righteousness and cleansing themselves from what is dishonorable (deeds of the flesh)

• Our main point was that for one to understand God, they must have the Holy Spirit. He is the one who grants understanding.
• 1 John 5:20 (ESV) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. - Jesus breathed on His disciples to receive the Holy Spirit. God has given us His spirit to understand him.
