ELEMENTS OF ART
A line created by objects placed close together in a continued pattern (i.e. a constellation, paw prints walking, dotted lines on the road)
What is an implied line.
Horizontal, vertical, curvy, straight, zig-zag, etc.
What are types of lines.
The type of symmetry associated with the mirror affect when the object or pattern is reflected across an axis to create a duplicate of itself.
What is reflective symmetry.
Emphasis/focal point, balance, scale/proportion, space, and movement/rhythm.
What are the principles of design.
Red, Blue, and Yellow
What are primary colors.
A texture you can feel with your fingers (i.e. fur, gravel, sponge)
What is actual texture.
Art that is open to interpretation, usually abstract, and uses only certain elements of art to convey a point/concept.
What is non-representational art.
The used space in an artwork occupied by a primary object, AND the unused or unoccupied space surrounding the object.
What is positive and negative space.
The "blueprint" or "sketch" for an underlying structure of a piece of art.
What is the design.
Orange, Green, and Purple
What are secondary colors.
Adding black or white to a color/hue to create a darker or lighter version of that color.
What is Value.
An invisible line created by the focus pulled between two objects on a plane (i.e. two people looking at each other, hands reaching out to each other)
What is an imaginary line.
The symmetry that is created when the artwork's composition is symmetrical around a central point or axis.
What is radial symmetry.
The use of imagination and fine motor skills in the creation of aesthetic objects OR using your mind and body to create a beautiful object.
Color made darker by the addition of black.
What is shading.
A 2-dimensional line that is enclosed to form something either geometrical or organic.
What is a shape.
Two ways or forms ideas come in.
What is words and images.
The principle in art that refers to a set of compositional strategies used by an artist to make the parts of a painting or another work of art hang together as a whole through visual relatedness.
What is unity.
How the individual part of the design is arranged on the plane/canvas.
What is composition.
What is a tertiary color.
A 3-dimensional object.
What is a form.
These are used in the design process, and are the way in which the concept of the design is applied on the plane/canvas.
What are the elements of art.
The principle in art that refers to visual pattern created by shapes, colors, and elements.
What is rhythm.
Something made pleasing to the eye, giving one a sense of beauty.
What is aesthetic.
