The fur trade in Canada began because many Europeans wanted these furs. They became partners in the fur trade with the Aboriginal Peoples. The French built trading posts on the St. Lawrence River and traded with Aboriginal Peoples who came to their posts with furs.

Exploitation is the use of a particular resource with no thought toward future replenishment. Europeans exploited the land by killing all the animals for fur and not caring that the populations were getting smaller and soon they were all gone.

Louis David Riel was a Canadian politician, a founder of the province of Manitoba, and a political leader of the Métis people of the Canadian Prairies.
