Trade Unions was what craft workers were starting to from in the 1830s. They had people that were not replaceable because they required certain training and certain skills.

Trust; a new way of merging businesses that did not violate such laws. It is a legal arrangement that allows one person to manage another person’s property. Holding Companies. Many companies immediately used the law to create a new organization, the holding company. A holding company does not produce anything itself.

What was the Haymarket 1886?

Knights led a march of 70,000 people for supporters of a 8 hour work day. March 3rd police interfered to stop a fight. Turned violent, police fired at strikers. The strikers responded the next day with people gathering for speeches. Police came. Someone threw a bomb, no one knew who it was. This causes the Knights of Labor to lose a lot of support. They become known as a violent group .

The act divided the south into five military districts and put officers in charge of making sure states rewrote their constitutions. This Act was created to punish the Radical Republicans for their Actions during the Civil War.

How did the railroads change the country?

The transcontinental railroad was the first on many lines that began crisscrossing the nation. Railroads increased the markets for many products. Spending huge money on steel, coal, timber, and other material stimulated the economy.

Pullman strike? 

Leader Eugene V.  Debs organized the American Railroad Union.  Most were employees of Pullman Palace Car Company.   Owned by George Pullman. Strike started May 11th, 1894. Federal court called it an injunction. That was a formal court order directing the union to stop the boycott.

To stop prices from falling companies organized pools. Agreements to keep prices at a certain level. They failed. Most of the time one of the companies would undercut the other for profit. Competition reduced the industries into the larger corporation.

Who were the Radical Republicans? Why did they care about the 14th amendment?

Radical Republicans were Johnsons biggest opponents in congress. They wanted to punish the South for the civil war. They supported equal rights for freed men. They cared about the 14th amendment because they believed every man should have the right to become a citizen. They opposed Lincolns plan because they thought it was too lenient to the South. They were afraid the civil rights act of 1866 would be overruled or ignored.

For a $10 registration fee, an individual could file for a homestead. Homestead- a tract of public land available for settlement. A homesteader could claim up to 160 acres of land and could receive title to that land after living there for five years.

It took him more than a year. Edison company began to transform American society in 1882. In 1889 the Edison companies grew and today known as the GE. Or the Edison General Electric Company
