Nine-year war between the British and the French in North America. Resulted in the exit of French from the North America in Treaty of Paris (1763). Colonists emerged more unified from victory. War left the British in debt, which Parliament tried to fix by colonists with Stamp Act, Townshend Acts, Tea Act, and others.

These Acts were a series of measures, passed by the British Parliament in 1767, that taxed goods imported to the American colonies. Early attempts, such as the Stamp Act of 1765—which taxed colonists for every piece of paper they used and were met with widespread protests in America.
