What is the Patriotic Legion Building Mural? The mural depicts an American Flag, a bald eagle, four veterans from the Revolutionary War, World War 1, World War II, and a modern soldier. Air Forces are depicted by a B24 Bomber and Vietnam era fighter jet. Sea forces are depicted by the battleship USS Iowa. The bottom of the mural depicts a cemetery reminding us of the sacrifices veterans have made.

Cambridge has a long history of churches serving the community. The Palestine Lutheran Church started in 1855 with the arrival of the first Norwegian immigrants to Story County. Four churches stand today.

Palestine Lutheran Church (Huxley), Faith Baptist Church, United Methodist Church, and Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Other area churches from the past:  The Full Gospel Tabernacle (4th and Water St.), Walnut Grove, Center Grove, Methodist Church in Elwell, Elwell Evangelical Church.

The Skunk River was first called ChaCaGua by the Indigenous People.  The early settlers preferred the word skunk. It was possibly referring to several reasons.

What is large quantities of wild onions that grew along the banks that would often rot and produce a horrible smell.  Another reason may be that the river could be a "real stinker" with low muddy banks, marshy bottoms, and prone to flooding.
