Who is Stanley Yelnats?
Main character. The boy who is sent to Camp Green Lake. Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake and has to dig a hole every day. He is learning how difficult camp is and beginning to understand the other boys.

Very thirsty or extremely dry.

Poisonous or harmful to living things.

A familiar or shorter name given to a person.
Who is the The Warden?
The person in charge of the camp. Camp leader. She is in charge of Camp Green Lake. She makes the rules and has the boys dig holes because she is looking for something.

Understands something incorrectly

Covered with dirt or something dirty.

Causing death

To make someone feel afraid or nervous.
Who is Mr. Sir?
The strict staff member who watches the boys. Camp counselor/staff member. He watches the boys while they dig and is strict about following the camp's rules.

Who is X-Ray?
An older boy who acts like a leader. Leader of the group of boys. He is one of the older boys at camp and expects the other boys, including Stanley, to respect him.

A statement that you will do something and try to keep your word.

The act of digging or removing earth from the ground.

careful because something may be dangerous or unsafe.

Feeling that something may be wrong, dishonest, or unsafe.
Who is Zero (Hector Zeroni)?
A quiet boy who is often misunderstood. Quiet boy at camp. He does not talk much and is often underestimated by the others. He becomes an important part of Stanley's experience at Camp Green Lake.
