1. ensure the area is clear
2. put your hand on the rope
3. pull the brake
4. announce in a clear, LOUD voice "[name/number of line] coming in/going out"
5. wait for "thank you"
6. pull the rope
7. slow down. Do not let the arbor crash
8. push the brake up
