Fact! - There may be a delay of 1 to 3 weeks after infection, before symptoms of tetanus appear. More commonly, symptoms will appear after 9 or 10 days. Tetanus attacks the horse's central nervous system.

The clinical signs in a horse vary and may be an acute form of the disease or a more chronic form. The acute form can be seen as a sudden high fever, lethargy, anemia, and low blood platelets. The chronic form presents as an intermittent fever, weight loss, edema in the legs and lower abdomen, and anemia.

Fact - in order to cross most boarders you must have a EIA or Coggins test that comes back negative. Coggins tests are considered valid for a year after the test date.
