Entertainment could be similar to a piece of what?
Fruit
Name five areas of entertainment Satan tries to use against us.
Movies, websites, television shows, video games, and music
What will help us make good decisions regarding entertainment?
Bible principles that teach us Jehovah's view on matters and help train our conscience
(Galatians 6:5)
The choices we make in private reveal what about us?
The kind of person we really are. (Psalm 11:4)
Why might the entertainment one Christian chooses be different from what another Christian chooses?
We all like different things and not everyone's consciences are the same. Though opinions are based on the same Bible principles, one Christian can find something acceptable while another does not.
What can our choice of entertainment have a bearing on?
Our worship of or relationship with Jehovah
How do we show Jehovah that we hate what is bad?
By rejecting entertainment that does not reflect Jehovah's clean standards
Why is it important to ensure we aren't spending too much time on recreational activities?
To make sure that our service to God has first place in our lives.
(Matthew 6:33)
Before choosing entertainment, what questions should we ask ourselves?
How will my choice affect my relationship with Jehovah? How will it affect my conscience?
Why do we need to consider the feelings of others when we choose our entertainment?
We do not want to do anything that will stumble our fellow Christian.
What does it mean to "do all things for God's glory"?
It means we will use our life to serve God; even when relaxing or enjoying entertainment, not just when we are at meetings or in the field ministry.
What effect can unacceptable entertainment have on our conscience?
The more we entertain ourselves with unacceptable things, the more we will begin to accept them as normal. In time, our conscience will weaken and stop warning us when we are about to make a wrong choice.
What do we do if we have done research and still aren't sure if a form of entertainment is harmful or not?
We stay far away from any entertainment that we suspect might not be good for us and might harm our relationship with Jehovah.
What are some questions we can reflect on honestly after engaging in our selected form of entertainment?
Do I have pleasant, refreshing thoughts? Do I feel at peace, having a good conscience? Do I feel free to pray to Jehovah? Or do I feel bad? Did the entertainment make me think about violent or immoral things? By the entertainment I chose, am I being 'molded by this system of things'?
How can we apply 1 Corinthians 10:23,24 in our dealings with others?
Just because we have the freedom or the right to do something does not mean that we should do it; especially if we know it might be hurtful or harmful to others.
How could our worship become unacceptable to Jehovah?
Our worship cannot be clean if we do things that Jehovah hates or allow ourselves to be entertained by them.
What does Jeremiah 17:9 say of the heart and what does this mean?
"The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate."
Our heart can encourage us to selfishly make wrong choices based on how they make us feel, and allow us to fool ourselves into thinking they aren't so bad.
Name one or more Bible principles that can help us make good decisions about our entertainment
Proverbs 6:16-19; Galatians 5:19-21; Philippians 4:8; Matthew 6:33; Ephesians 5:15,16 etc.
Our choice in entertainment reflects our choice of what we fill our _________ with.
