Laura Secord is historically significant as a heroine of the War of 1812 for her courageous act of warning British forces of an impending American attack. Her 32-kilometer journey through enemy lines alerted Lieutenant James FitzGibbon, ultimately contributing to the British victory at the Battle of Beaver Dams.
