Name two ways to search to see if a "new" borrower has a record already?
Enter "e" followed by the patron's birth date (best way!)
Enter "n" followed by the patron's name (room for error!)

CO Digital ID
Consulate card (incl. Matricula Consular)
Military ID
Passport

Use the numeral version. (1st St)
What does Colorado Libraries Collaborate even mean?
How do we provide account information to a patron without their card or ID?
Ask for their name AND birth date to find them, AND verify their phone, address, OR email to access information or check out items.
What do we do when a patron is deceased?
Tell a supervisor! Supervisors have permission to delete accounts for deceased patrons.
Do we do "Proxy" cards?

County Road (e.g. 8787 County Road 7) (not Weld County Road or WCR.)
Name two Weld County towns that we commonly see CLC borrowers from.
Dacono
Windsor
(Some Greeley are in Clearview Library District)
(Some Johnstown in Larimer County!)

Verify their name AND birth date AND one other date point, then show the barcode to the patron so they may record it in whatever way they choose.
What printed information should we be offering to patrons after creating their library cards?
New Borrower packet (with CVR Monthly programs brochure + HPLD brochure.)
If a parent/legal guardian has a valid HPLD card, can this be used as verification of address for a minor's (under 16) card?
Yes! The parent does not need to show additional ID if they have a valid HPLD card.

Up to 3 times! We are all checking ourselves (right? right?) Then we are checking each others' at the desk (right? right?) Then Bridget is double-checking the new borrower reports about every two weeks.
Describe how to look up a Dacono patron's taxing district.
Go to the Weld County Assessor's property search portal and type in the patron's address.
What should we tell a patron who has lost their card (or said it was stolen?)
Replace it! That is the best way to ensure patron confidentiality.
(If they don't want to replace it, that's okay too, but now that there is no replacement fee, why not?)
Do we have fines and fees?
Yes! (See Handout)
You can say:
"We do not charge a fee for overdue materials in most instances. However, there are some exceptions, including if the item is more than 42 days late."
Does HPLD allow the issuing of a library card based on personal knowledge of the individual requesting the card rather than a picture ID?
No! The policy has been changed and HPLD no longer allows for this exception to be made.
Trick question! There is no charge!

Longmont (except Weld Co residents)
Thornton
Broomfield
Louisville
Lafayette
Boulder
What else?
What does a signature on the blue form stipulate for the patron?
Name three things to say to a patron when you give the patron their card.
“Welcome to the Library! You can now check out up to 50 (10 for CLC) items at any of the High Plains Library District locations and you can return items at any other location listed on the brochure. You can use this phone number to call to renew your books or if you have any questions. You can also renew items online at the library’s website, www.MyLibrary.us, which is printed on your library card.
Most items check out for three weeks except for adult feature movies and all children’s videos, which have a shorter checkout period of one week.
There is a limit of 15 media checked out on your account at one time (Resident borrowers only).
Most materials can be renewed up to three times as long as they are not on request (see “Renewal limits”).
If you lose your card or it gets stolen, let us know right away so that you won’t be held responsible for items checked out on your record by someone else. Be sure to notify the library if you change your address or phone number.”
Explaining what they can access via the web site (their record to renew and place holds, resetting their PIN, downloadables, specialty checkouts.)
