These hard body parts give your body shape and structure.
What are bones?
This part at the back of your eye receives an image when light enters your eye.
What is the retina?
The dark opening in the center of your eye lets light enter.
What is the pupil?
These carry messages between your brain and other parts of your body.
What are nerves?
The sense organ that detects light.
What are the eyes?
This body part pulls on bones to make them move.
What is a muscle?
For you to see a pencil, light must first bounce off the pencil and then do this.
Enter your eye.
Your pupils get bigger when you walk into a dark room. Why?
To let more light into your eyes.
Your eyes see a ball flying toward you. Which organ receives that information and decides how your body should respond?
What is the brain?
A squirrel smells a predator. The information travels from its nose along nerves to this organ.
What is the brain?
This tough tissue connects a muscle to a bone.
What is a tendon?
Put these in order: retina, object, light source, eye (what path does the light take?)
Light source-->object-->eye-->retina.
Would your pupils usually be larger at noon on a sunny day or outside at night?
Outside at night.
Your ears hear a loud noise. How does that information get from your ears to your brain?
It travels along nerves.
Put these in order: brain decides to run, eyes see danger, legs run, message travels to brain.
Eyes see danger-->message travels to brain-->brain decides to run-->legs run.
Your muscle contracts, but the tendon connecting it to your arm bone is missing. What would happen?
The muscle could not pull/move the bone.
An eye model makes a blurry image on its retina. What could you change to bring the image into focus?
The distance between the lens and retina.
A nocturnal animal has very large pupils at night. Explain how that helps it survive.
Larger pupils let in more light, helping it see in low light.
Your brain decides to move your hand. How does the message get from your brain to the muscles in your arm?
Through nerves.
A fox sees a rabbit. Describe how information gets from the fox's eyes to its legs so it can chase the rabbit.
Eyes detect it-->nerves carry information to the barin-->brain responds-->nerves carry messages to the legs.
An arm loses its muscles and tendons but still has its bones. Name one thing the arm could still do and one thing is could NOT do normally.
It could keep most of its shape/structure, but it could not move normally.
You're in a completely dark room with your eyes wide open. Why can't you see a book sitting in front of you?
There isn't enough light bouncing off the book and entering your eyes.
Two pictures show the same animal. In Picture A its pupils are tiny; in Picture B they're huge. Which picture was probably taken in the dark, and what evidence supports your answer?
Picture B, because pupils enlarge in darkness to let in more light.
A nerve connecting an animal's brain to one of its legs is damaged. The muscles and bones in the leg are fine. Why might the animal still have trouble moving that leg?
Messages from the brain can't travel normally to the leg.
Your friend tosses you a ball and you catch it. Explain the roles of your eyes, nerves, brain, muscles, tendons, and bones in making that happen.
Eyes detect the ball-->nerves carry information to the brain-->brain sends messages through nerves-->muscles contract-->tendons pull on bones--?arm/hand move.
