This system turns food into nutrient molecules
digestive system
this type of cellular respiration occurs in plants
photosynthesis
what two systems interact to bring oxygen to cells?
respiratory and circulatory
a group of tissues that perform a particular function
organ
name 3 body systems
circ, digestive, endocrine, muscular, skeletal, excretory, nervous, respiratory....
these systems give the body structure and protection, and enable the body to move
the muscular and skeletal systems
the one thing that supplies energy to cells is... _____?
food or glucose
what two systems interact to bring food to cells?
digestive and circulatory
a place in your body where two bones meet
joints
define circulatory system
transports oxygen to cells in the body
this system uses hormones to communicate with the body
endocrine system
aerobic cellular respiration occurs in cells structures called mitochondria. If the mitochondria are diseased, the cells die..... why?
They can't provide usable energy for the cell, so the cell dies.
what body system is responsible for controlling all other body systems?
nervous system
the system of blood vessels and organs that transports blood to the cells in the body
circulatory system
what is Ms M's favorite holiday?
Halloween :)
this system exhales waste gases such as carbon dioxide
respiratory system
what does aerobic cellular respiration produce? (3 things)
energy, water, carbon dioxide
explain how the circulatory system supports aerobic cellular respiration
The circulatory system carries oxygen and glucose to the cells, where they are used to produce energy for the cells through aerobic cellular respiration. The bloodstream carries waste products from it (CO2 and water) from the cells to the excretory system, where they can leave the body.
a group of organs that work together to carry out one or more functions in the body
organ system
A patient goes to the doctor with the following symptoms: trouble breathing, fatigue, hard time thinking clearly. Out of the following body systems, these symptoms show that both the nervous system and respiratory system are being affected. Be able to explain why this is the case.
All systems are connected, if you are having trouble breathing, then you can’t carry oxygen around the body. This can cause fatigue and having a hard time thinking. Lack of oxygen can also cause problems with other systems.
define excretory system
gets rid of liquid waste from the body
Heart muscle cells that can't get blood, die. What would happen to a person if some heart muscle cells die. Put these in the correct order:
1. heart dies
2. heart cells die
3. circulatory system can't function and human dies
4. heart tissue dies
2, 4, 1, 3
Aplastic anemia is a disease that decreases the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow of leg and arm bones. One of the symptoms of aplastic anemia is severe headaches. Explain why that might be so.
RBCs carry things like oxygen throughout the body to all of our cells. This includes cells in the brain. If we aren’t producing enough RBCs to carry oxygen, the brain may not receive enough oxygen, giving us a headache as a symptom.
define tissue
a group of cells that have similar structure
how to the respiratory and circulatory systems interact in humans? (three ways)
blood picks up oxygen in the lungs
blood carries carbon dioxide to the lungs
blood carries nutrients to cells in the organs of the respiratory system
