A fossil is a part or an imprint of something that was once alive whereas artifacts are objects created and used by humans.
Examples for fossils: bones or footprints preserved in rock
Examples of artifacts: pottery, arrowheads, coins, tools, toys, etc.

-A metaphor is a figure of speech that is used to make a comparison between two things that aren't alike but do have something in common. (Ex: The assignment was a breeze.)
-A simile is a figure of speech that makes a comparison. Unlike a metaphor, a simile draws resemblance with the help of the words “like” or “as.” (Ex: Her cheeks are red like a rose.)
