Connotative: meaning that is associated with emotions or images that can be positive or negative.

Example- She walked into the store ---> She waltzed into the store. The first sentence does not give any description about how she is feeling. Saying that she waltzed into the store allows the reader to to know she is happy.


Denotative: the dictionary meaning of a word. In the first example the dictionary definition of waltz is a dance
