This is said and done at the same time as an act of superstition.

to say that a person is very talkative. So much so that even if they were submerged underwater they would still keep talking!

Something that goes against the grain is hard for people to accept because it conflicts with their usual beliefs or way of life.
Shark repellent
a measure or step taken by a company or corporation to stop itself from being taken over by another usually bigger one.
