IEP Vocabulary
This is the legal document that lists a student's goals, accommodations, modifications, services, and how the school will support them.
What is an IEP?
This describes the student's current level of performance before instruction or intervention begins and provides a starting point for measuring progress.
What is baseline?
This section of the IEP describes what the student can currently do, including strengths, needs, and how the disability affects involvement and progress in the general curriculum.

What is Free Appropriate Public Education?
The part of an objective that describes the specific situation, setting, materials, or level of support that must be in place when the student is exepected to perform the target behavior.
What is the condition?
This word describes the changes that help you access learning-like extra time, breaks, or preferred seating.
What are accommodations?
Instead of saying, “The student struggles with reading,” a strong baseline should include this type of information, such as “The student answers 3 out of 10 literal comprehension questions correctly.”
What is specific, measurable data?
When writing present levels, this type of information should be used to support statements about a student's current performance rather than relying only on general observations.

What is Least Restrictive Environment?
The part of the objective that is the specific, observable, and countatble action the student will perform.
What is the target behavior?
This term means changing the actual work or expectations, such as reducing the number of problems or simplifying the text.
What are modifications?
A baseline should directly relate to this part of the IEP so that progress can be measured from the student's current level toward the expected outcome.
What is the annual goal (or objective at JRC)?
A strong present-level statement should explain how the student's disability affects their ability to access, participate in, or make progress in this area.

The part of an objective that defines the level of accuracy, rate, or standar of performance required for the student to be considered successful or to have mastered the goal.

A strong baseline should be based on current, objective information such as assessment results, work samples, observations, and progress-monitoring data—not simply this type of general statement: “The student is doing well in reading.” The "not doing well statement" would be considered what?
