Why do you get a fever?
You get a fever when white blood cells detect infection and send chemical signals to the brain to increase your body temperature. The increased temperature helps kill or slow bacteria.
Before the chicken pox vaccine, chicken pox was common in children, but they would only get it once. Why don't you get sick with the same thing twice?
The 1st time you get sick, your immune system makes specially shaped antibodies to match the antigen shape of the germs. Then, the antigens stay in your blood and "remember" the germ. Next time a single germ of that type infects you it is killed immediately and cannot make you sick.

Can be damaged by smoking and vaping. If cilia are damaged then germs can infect the body more easily and the person might be sick more often. Also, can cause "smoker's cough" because without cilia, coughing is the only way to get rid of germs in the throat and lungs.
