A mathematical sentence that compares expressions.
Inequality
Describe the error
Multiplied first instead of subtracting (and did not multiply the 4)
The temperature is no more than 71 degrees
t <= 71
On a number line, if x > 5, why do you shade the numbers to the right of 5?
Because numbers that are greater are to the right on a number line, numbers that are smaller are to the left.
"At most", "no more than", "up to", and "maximum" are all synonyms for this inequality symbol
Less than or equal to
Write and solve an inequality that represents x

10x >= 120
x >= 12
Eight times a number is less than 72
Why are they called "inequalities"?
Because one side does not equal the other.
Doing the opposite math of what is shown in order to solve an inequality
Inverse Operation
Write as an inequality with the variable on the right.
1 > x
Solve and Graph
34 >= 40 + x
-6 >= x
What types of math operations are terms separated by?
Addition and Subtraction.
The math operation that you would use to solve an equation or inequality that had the quotient of a variable and a constant
Multiplication
Write and solve the inequality that represents how much more money you need to spend to receive free shipping if you've already spent $24
x + 24 >= 75
x >= 51
(5x)/-7 > 20
x < -28
The solution of d + s > −3 is d > −7. What is the value of s?
4
An inequality that has two possible sets of solutions, with "and" or "or" between them.
Compound inequality
If the shaded area is greater than or equal to 12, what is r?

r >= 8
A roller coaster holds 12 people per ride. Write and solve an inequality to find the least amount of rides needed for 15,000 people to ride. BONUS: If the park is open for 12 hours a day, is it possible for 15,000 to ride in one day? Why or Why not?
12r >= 15,000 r >= 1,250
no
Why do you have to flip the inequality sign when you divide or multiply by a negative?
Multiplying or dividing by a negative reverses the position of a number on the number line, turning a positives into negatives and vice versa. Therefore the sign also has to be reversed to maintain a true statement.
