Ostriches bury their head in the sand.
MYTH
Contrary to the popular belief, ostriches do not bury their head in the sand when scared or frightened. In fact, when an ostrich senses danger and cannot run away, it will flop to the ground and remain motionless, attempting to blend in with the terrain. Ostriches do dig shallow holes in the sand to serve as nests for their eggs. The ostrich will use its beak to turn the eggs in the nest several times a day, creating the illusion of burying its head in the sand.

Dolphins only sleep with half their brain.
FACT!
Dolphins cannot sleep like humans and rest their whole brain because their breathing is not automatic – they must actively control their breathing by surfacing to breathe air. If they slept like us, they would stop breathing and drown. Instead, a dolphin only allows half of its brain to sleep at a time; the other half stays awake so the dolphin can keep breathing and look out for dangers in the environment. Dolphins alternate which half of the brain is sleeping periodically so both sides can be rested.

MYTH
True hibernation occurs when an animal drastically lowers its body temperature way down and sleeps through the entire winter. True hibernating animals, like groundhogs, woodchucks, some species of bats, etc. appear lifeless and are not easily awakened. Bears, on the other hand, exhibit a state called TORPOR. Though less active than usual, bears in torpor can respond easily to external stimuli and wake throughout the winter months to eat or respond to danger.
