What is an MIS?
-Customers , suppliers , competitors and stockholders whose data is not already captured by the TPS and ERP systems.
What are external data sources?
An organized collection of people , procedures, software, databases and devices used to help make decisions that solve problems.
What is DSS?
A decision-making approach that often consists of members offering ideas “off the top of their heads.”
What is brainstorming?
A process that goes beyond decision making to include the implementation stage.
What is problem solving?
-TPS and ERP systems and related databases

What are internal data sources?
Help an organization achieve its goals by providing managers with insight into the regular operations of the organization so that they can control, organize, and plan more effectively.
What is the primary purpose of an MIS?
• Handle large amounts of data from different sources.
• Provide report and presentation flexibility.
• Offer both textual and graphical orientation.
• Support drill-down analysis.
• Perform complex, sophisticated analysis and comparisons using advanced software packages.

What are the characteristics of a DSS?
Software application that consists of most elements in a DSS, plus software to provide effective support in group decision making.
What is a GSS?
Intelligence , design , choice , implementation and monitoring stages.
What are the five stages of problem solving?
• Provide reports with fixed and standard formats
• Produce hard-copy and soft-copy reports
• Use internal data stored in the computer system
• Allow users to develop their own custom reports
• Require user requests for reports developed by systems personnel
What are the characteristics of an MIS?
Performs a number of important activities, providing aggregate information on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and many other applications.
What is an accounting MIS?
A DSS that handles situations or decisions that occur more than once, usually several times per year or more

For the former the variables that comprise the decision are known and can be measured quantitatively whilst for the latter only some of the variables can be measured quantitatively
What is the difference between structured and semistructured decisions?
System that uses data gathered from both internal and external sources to provide reporting and aid decision making .
What is a marketing MIS?
A computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information.
What is a geographic information system ?
Strategic managers are involved with long-term decisions, which are often made infrequently. Operational managers are involved with decisions that are made more frequently.
What is the decision- making level?
An approach that can use both face-to-face and computer-mediated communication.
What is the GSS decision room?
A process to find the best solution, usually the one that will best help the organization meet its goals.
What is the optimization model?
Marketing research, product development, promotion and advertising, and product pricing.
What are the subsystems of marketing MIS?
Design and engineering , master production scheduling , inventory control , process control and quality control and testing.
What are the common information subsystems and outputs used in manufacturing?
DSS components include a model base; database; external database access; access to the Internet and corporate intranet, networks, and other computer systems; and a user interface or dialogue manager
What is the conceptual model of a DSS?
Encourages feedback from individual group members, and the final decision is made by voting, similar to the way public officials are elected.
