If staff are injured at work, should they go to their own primary care doctor?

No, they should be sent to one of our providers listed on the Staff IR paperwork.

What is the protocol for a client head injury?

-Call parents to notify them of the injury and let them know how the client is responding. Offer for early pick up if the client is showing symptoms of head trauma.

-Fill out a detailed IR and notify the supervisor and CM

-If the client did not break their fall with another body part and their head hit the ground first- this should be an immediate pick-up.

-Check in with staff on how to avoid these injuries in the future.

As a floor sup, what is the first thing we want to do when a serious injury occurs aside from attending to the client (getting them ice, water, giving them a hug, keeping them from hurting themselves more and checking the injury).

Call 911 if necessary or parents for pick-up. You can delegate the task of calling parents to FD if you need to stay with the client.

If a parent wants a copy of the IR, are you able to provide it to them?

No. IR's are internal Documents.

We are able to assist the guardian by providing a typed summary of the IR with the FSC letterhead.

*Loop in the supervisor and CM of this request.

After notifying parents of a serious injury, how long do they have to get to the center before we call EMS?

30 minutes from the time the injury occurred.

-We should let them know that the client is in pain and EMS will be called for assistance if they are unable to get to the center within that time frame.

-Front desk should call parents at the 15 minute mark to ensure they are on the way and are able to make it on time.

-If parents are unable to make it or arrange for someone else to pick them up- we will call for EMS.

*Notify CM before calling EMS if parents are unable to make it within 30 minutes

*You do not have to wait for the CM response if there is a clear need to call 911 (client is unconscious, open fracture, significant amount of blood, client is seizing with no record of seizures).
